The fleet's most experienced vessel began life in 1976 as the Royal Dutch Navy oceanographic research vessel HNLMS Tydeman, converted to expedition cruising in 2009. Diesel-electric propulsion delivers reduced noise and vibration—ideal for wildlife observation.

Named for the Plancius Foundation (predecessor to Oceanwide Expeditions 1981-1996), the vessel offers camping on "Basecamp" voyages, mountaineering, snowshoeing, and extensive hiking programs. Ten Mark V Zodiacs with 40 HP outboard engines deploy via two starboard gangways.
